Plumbing Tips For The Summer
The changing seasons always provide the perfect opportunity to address some maintenance tasks around the house. As spring turns to summer, there are several things to do to take care of your drains and prevent future problems. At C & C Myers Heating, AC, Plumbing & Drains, we are here to help you take care of your home’s entire plumbing system, so we put together this summer plumbing tips list to help you avoid the headaches:
- Schedule a drain cleaning. You might not usually consider having your drains cleaned unless you have a clog, but why not be more proactive? Having your drains cleaned now could save you time and frustration in the future – like when you’re hosting a barbecue or have guests staying with you this summer!
- Do research before planting. If you fail to do the proper research before planting trees and shrubs on your property, you could have a big problem with your drains later. Roots naturally seek water, and they commonly work their way into sewer lines.
- Take care of your disposal. Using your garbage disposal improperly may result in a clogged kitchen sink. Be mindful of what you put in the disposal, and put everything else in the trash can where it belongs. Grease, fibrous vegetables, bones and several other things should never find their way into your disposal.
- Make sure there is water in drain traps. Prevent sewer smells from seeping into your basement by making sure there is water in your floor drain taps. Just pour a pitcher of water in the drain to keep sewer gasses at bay.
In many homes, summer is a stressful time for plumbing systems. Having the kids home from school and hosting summer get-togethers takes a toll on drains, while clogs and other problems are common during this time of year. However, by keeping up with some basic maintenance, you can avoid a lot of frustration.
