How to Know if You Need a New Air Conditioner

Many people aren’t sure when it’s best to buy a new air conditioning unit. They wonder if they should do it before the old one breaks, or if they should wait until the current one is completely dead. Here are some signs that it may be time to replace your A/C. If you are noticing any of these, give us a call. We’ll send out a tech to assess the situation and let you know how best to handle it. You may need a new air conditioner if:

  • Your current unit is more than 10 years old. This is roughly the lifespan of most of the air conditioners out there. If yours is this old or older, it’s time to have it checked out. We’ll let you know how well it’s running and what you can expect from it vs. a new unit.
  • Your air conditioner runs all the time. If your unit is always on, it’s not working very well. Air conditioners are designed to run until they cool your home, then turn off until it heats up again. A unit that runs all the time is going to burn itself out faster than one that shuts off when appropriate.
  • Your air conditioner blows lukewarm air. The air that comes out of your vents may start out cold, but if it gets warmer then your A/C isn’t working effectively. It should blow cold air into your home until your house cools off.

You don’t have to live with an air conditioner that isn’t working for you. Give us a call and our expert technicians will come examine your air conditioner, let you know what needs to be done, and, if necessary, install a new one for you. Stay cool this summer with C&C Myers!
